What orange fruit, imported from Thailand, tastes like candy? The answer is cantaloupe, “dried cantaloupe melon” from Sun-Maid, that is.
Sun-Maid brags that “dried fruits are good for your health, are easy to carry, and taste great.” A dried cantaloupe slice is certainly easy to tote around, and it does taste great. In fact, with 19 grams of sugar per one-ounce-serving, it tastes just like candy. It has a chewy texture similar to dried pineapple. It’s also fat-free, and a source of Vitamin A and C.
I was hoping that the dried cantaloupe would serve as a “secret ingredient” in the cantaloupe ice cream that I want to concoct, but the taste is too mild. While it’s also too sugary for me, my nose is delighted with the sweet, fruity, fragrance that escapes from the bag when it’s first opened.
So, why can’t melons gets married?
Because they can’t elope!
